Construction Calculator

Cubic Footage Calculator

Calculate cubic feet from three measurements in seconds. You can enter dimensions in feet or inches and also see the equivalent cubic yards.

Calculate cubic footage

Enter length, width, and height or depth. Keep all three measurements in the same unit.

Choose the unit used for all three measurements.

What is cubic footage?

Cubic footage measures the amount of three-dimensional space inside a box, room, excavation, slab, container, or other shape with length, width, and height. This cubic footage calculator keeps the calculation simple: enter three measurements, choose feet or inches, and the tool converts everything consistently.

Cubic footage formula

cubic feet = length × width × height

If measurements are in inches, divide the final cubic inches by 1,728 to get cubic feet.

1 cubic yard = 27 cubic feet

Example

For a box that is 12 ft long, 8 ft wide, and 4 ft high:

12 × 8 × 4 = 384 cubic feet

That is 14.22 cubic yards.

Where cubic footage is useful

You can use the result when estimating concrete, fill material, storage capacity, excavation volume, or other construction quantities. For irregular spaces, divide the shape into smaller sections and add their volumes.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate cubic footage?

Multiply length by width by height after making sure all three measurements use the same unit.

How many cubic feet are in a cubic yard?

One cubic yard contains 27 cubic feet.

Can I enter measurements in inches?

Yes. Select inches and the calculator converts the three measurements before reporting cubic feet.

What if the space is not a perfect box?

Break the space into simple sections, calculate each section separately, and add the results.
